Digitoll

20/06/2023

New regulations for customs processing from 1 January 2023. As your freight forwarder we'll need to obtain detailed information about the goods well in advance of arrival in order to start the customs procedure.

Up-to-date information on customs clearance and digital processes:

From 1 April 2025, it will no longer be possible to use the existing direct route scheme for customs clearance of goods. This change applies to all modes of transport and industry segments and comes as part of Norwegian Customs' strategy for digitalisation and streamlining of customs procedures.

Instead, a digital declaration and information obligation, known as Digitoll, will be introduced. This means that Norwegian Customs will require complete digital information about goods arriving in the country, including details of the means of transport, place of arrival and time. The aim of Digitoll is to automate the customs clearance process as much as possible and streamline border crossing.

The direct transport scheme is being discontinued to ensure that Norwegian Customs receives the necessary information about the goods before or at the border crossing. This will help to improve control of the flow of goods and reduce the need for manual processing at the border.

For companies that import goods, such as SR Group, this will mean a change in procedures. It will be necessary to collect and submit all relevant information about the goods well in advance of arrival, including copies of invoices, certificates and transport information. This will allow the freight forwarder to start the customs procedure in advance of arrival and ensure a seamless customs clearance.

SR Group is actively working with its system supplier to implement the necessary digital solutions in line with the changes in customs regulations. This ensures that the company is prepared for the transition to Digitoll and can fulfil the new requirements for customs processing.
